Shatabdi Inception

Shatabdi is  exclusively a social organization. Shatabdi was born between  the fag end of 20th century and the beginning of 21st century. Perhaps that is why the name of the Organization is  Shatabdi. Prior to the foundation of Shatabdi, there lies another story .

“Lucknow Art Theatre” which is exclusively a cultural organization was formed in 1989. The main task of this Theatre was to organize various cultural programs  inclusive the celebration of  Rabindra Jayanti . Nazrul Jayanti and the Bengali New Year (Naba Barsha ) though primarily the Theatre was engaged in presenting Bengali Dramas to uphold the enriched heritage of Bengali Theatre. Simultaneously, the then members of the Theatre wanted to provide a platform for the Bengalis to unite and communicate to each other residing in the areas of Lucknow like Aliganj , Vikas Nagar, Jankipuram. Gradually the number of  Bengalis participating in various programmes started increasing day by day. Hence it was right time to think whether we could celebrate our Grand festival, Shree Shree Durga Puja or commonly known, as we call it,  Durgotsav.

                           In 1996 on the auspicious day of Basant Panchami we resolved to celebrate Shri Shri Basant Panchami  under the banner of Lucknow Art Theatre. A Sport meet for School Children along with drawing competition, fancy dress competition etc was organized. The entire celebration was applauded by not only the Bengalis but also the non- bengalis who earnestly urged for celebration of Durgotsav in the Locality. Without further wasting time we started celebration of Shri Shri Durga Puja but not under the banner of the Theatre rather we preferred to celebrate under Shri Shri Durga Puja Committee which was initially the extended body of the Theatre. The journey of the Shatabdi Committee hence started from 1997, with the objective to bridge the cultural gap between the Bengalis and others. Perhaps it will not be exaggerated to say that by this passage of time, we have certainly enough reasons to be complacent but we do know that we have huge task ahead  to comply with .

                         Meanwhile , twelve years have passed and  today we have bagged huge applause for the successful celebration of Shri Shri  Durga Puja .Over  one thousand devotees are offered General Bhog  ( Khichri Bhog) daily during Maha Saptami ,Maha Asthami and Maha Navami in the Puja Pandal.  .About forty volunteers exert all efforts to ensure perfect distribution of General Bhog. While distributing Bhog we take special care for senior citizens and physically handicapped persons.
